Weights, trio of golds to the Absolutes for Pizzolato and Imperio

Spectacular first day of competitions in San Donato Milanese for the Finals of the Absolute Olympic Weightlifting. The best Italian weightlifters battled on the platform of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, including the new European Champions Nino Pizzolato and Giulia Imperio (in the photo), who did not spare themselves after the results obtained a few days ago in Albania but rather did the dress rehearsals in view of the next Mediterranean Games, which await them in a week. Nino Pizzolato, Absolute Italian Champion in the 89 kg with 370 kg, was greeted by a crowd that paid homage to him with a long applause: the athlete of the Fiamme Oro won three golds even attempting a new Italian record that failed by a whisker . Giulia Imperio, also triple gold in the 49 kg, has again tried to lift 100 kg in the momentum, but giving an appointment in Oran.

«Each race has its own reason – says Nino Pizzolato – you have to do it well and with the right motivation because you can discover new emotions and in any case it represents growth. I constantly aim to improve myself to achieve those goals that we have set ourselves and that we all want to achieve. Now the Mediterranean Games are coming, a competition that I feel particularly because it is the only medal missing from my palmares. I want to enjoy it because this too will be a unique emotion ».

«Many commitments this June – says Giulia Imperio – but we try to give our best in every competition. This was a passing race, there was no unloading after the European Championships because we are now projected towards the Mediterranean Games. We must think above all of this next commitment but in the meantime we have not spared ourselves. In Oran I want to get on the podium, then obviously I hope to win the most precious medal possible. What is certain is that I will do mine, to always improve myself, because it is right to give an official result to the sacrifices we make in the gym ».

Pizzolato and Imperio were still in good company: among others on the platform we also saw Mirko Zanni, Olympic bronze medalist in Tokyo, who won the title of Overall Champion in the 73 kg category; Iacopo Falsinotti, vice-champion of the World a week ago in Mexico, silver in the Absolute; Carlotta Brunelli, who will return to international competitions in Algeria, Italian champion in the 76 kg.
