The fourth round of the VI zone Rally Cup, valid with coefficient 1.5, is in the “hot” phase of registrations and Reggello Motor Sport wants to make known the characters of the challenge, anticipated in June, for what is a sort of return to origins.

As usual there will be the “City of Oil Cup”, the race reserved for historic cars.

Two days of competition, with the evening of Saturday 25 June involved with the first test of “Pietrapiana-Frantoio Santa Tea”, and a course of high technical level that offers tradition and novelty.

Reggello (Florence), 11 June 2022 – There are two weeks left to the start of the 14th edition of the Reggello-City of Florence Rally, organized by Reggello Motor Sport with the collaboration of Aci Firenze.

The race, scheduled for 25 and 26 June, is in its decisive phase, that of registrations, a period that will close on 15 June, proposing the great novelty of the return “to the origins”, therefore in June, in the way in which already happened at the first edition of 2008 and on another more recent occasion, as a “tradition”, it will not be just one race, but two, also including the classic “City of Oil Cup, an unmissable opportunity for historic cars over the years become a “classic”.

The two thousand twenty-two Reggello-City of Florence Rally will have a coefficient of 1.5 for the Vi zone Rally Cup, a “plus” for the famous rallies of Ciocco and Isola d’Elba, valid for the tricolor, a unique occasion for those chasing the VI zone championship to acquire “heavy” points and an opportunity also for the “disappointed” by the start of the season to get back into the game on the Stradellese palaces.

Streets of Reggio Emilia that will offer the stimulating experience of challenging each other on very technical roads, which punctuate a track that combines tradition and novelty. Overall, there are six special stages scheduled, one to be repeated twice, once for three occasions, plus a third scheduled for a single passage. The latter, after the departure from Cascia di Reggello in front of the beautiful Romanesque church (at 21.30), called “Pietrapiana-Frantoio Santa Tea” (9.730 km), will open the contest on the evening of Saturday 25 June at 21.58, while the other tests, “Figline” (Km. 8,790) and “Montanino-Giusti and Torricelli” (Km. 14,940) are scheduled for Sunday. The exit from the night rearrangement (in Cascia) will be from 08.15 and the final arrival from 17.09, also in Cascia di Reggello. The total distance covered by the special stages will be
65,980 kilometers out of a total of 183,510.

Here they are described in its most marked characters:

Section of 3,000 km obtained on the route of the “Pietrapiana” test, it takes advantage of the initial part. It is the revival of one of the Special Stages of when Reggello was a rallysprint. Wide and fast at the start, wide and winding the rest, still fun to tackle. It starts shortly after the hamlet of Leccio and ends before reaching Cancelli.

The night returns to the Reggello Rally, and returns with a test that mixes “tracks” from special stages already covered over the years.

It starts with the first part which is nothing more than the Shakedown in the afternoon, up to Cancelli, from here you go through the most exploited section of the rally in each edition, the one that goes from Cancelli to the junction with the SP 86. A beautiful inversion and we go towards Pietrapiana as we did in previous years, when we arrived at Saltino, this time we stop in Pietrapiana, immediately after the other historical inversion of our race.

The first part is wide and fast, the second narrow and again wide at the end. Two decisive and challenging road changes, the charm of the dark …

A fairly selective prologue before facing the fatigue of Sunday.

Tidying up at night in Cascia, and ready for the next day.

PS 3-5 “MONTANINO” Km 14,940

What can I say … now a classic, the test par excellence of the rally. Same route as the 2021 edition. It starts in Ponte all ‘Olivo, Strada comunale della Castellina, Cancelli, SP 17, via Cristoforo Colombo, Via di Sant’ Agata up to the intersection with the municipal road of Bonsi, then the municipal road “del cellaino” up at intersection with SP 86, San Donato in Fronzano, deviation in the town square, then SP 86 up to the town of Donnini, SP 88 of Sant ‘Ellero up to the end of the special stage on SP 88 intersection with via Contessa Itta.

These stretches of road are part of the history of the Reggello rally, practically exploited every year.

Narrow, wide; you go up and down; slow and fast, indeed … very fast. Between chicanes and digressions in the square, a crossroads that becomes a variant, three hamlets crossed in full and two jumps.

SS 2-4-6 “FIGLINE” Km 8,790

Sometimes they come back … and finally this Test comes back after ten years.

Between olive groves and woods, a continuous ups and downs, a tight uphill inversion, a hamlet to cross … if a second escapes you, perhaps in the reconnaissance, a look at the beautiful Romanesque Parish Church of Gaville is “recommended”.

It starts immediately after Ponte agli Stolli, along the Via di Gaville, goes towards Gaville, crosses it, then downhill towards Figline, a road a little wider than the initial stretch which then becomes very narrow after the inversion, and again uphill, with a nice hairpin bend.

At the end of the climb a fast flat kilometer, then all the way down to the end of the special stage, located just before the Stecco hamlet. Lots of technique, few breaks. Three times for a test that could become a classic.

On Sunday, after St 2 and 3, the rearrangement will take place in the splendid Piazza Marsilio Ficino in Figline Valdarno, while the second reorganization, again after the repeated tests Ps 4 and 5, will be at the “Bianchi” shopping center also in Figline Valdarno.

The Rally of Reggello and City of Florence as well as for the VI zone Cup, will be valid for the always appreciated

R Italian Trophy, for the Toscano Rally Trophy and for the Aci Lucca Rally Award.

Last year the victory went to the Pisan Carlo Alberto Senigagliesi, with Marco Lupi at the notes on a Skoda Fabia R5, in what was their “full” of laurels, while the historic race went to Giuliano Calzolari from San Marino, paired with Silvia Barsotti , in a Ford Escort RS.
