Porto Viro directs Gabriel Garnica

PORTO VIRO (ROVIGO) – The direction of Delta Group Porto Viro will speak Argentine next season: Fernando Gabriel Garnica arrives at the court of coach Matteo Battocchio, for everyone Fefè, a native setter of Buenos Aires (but with an Italian passport) who last year dragged Reggio Emilia to the victory of the Del Monte Coppa Italia and the Serie A2 Credem Banca playoffs. Born in 1980, 190 centimeters high and a boundless baggage of technique, experience and charisma, Garnica ideally collects the baton of compatriots Cuda, Kindgard and Vinti, who have left excellent memories in Porto Viro.

THE CARREER-

Growing up in the River Plate nursery in Buenos Aires, Garnica completes his youth path in Italy, among the ranks of Volley Brolo. After a first taste of Serie A1 in 2003/2004 in Gioia del Colle, he continued his maturation with three consecutive seasons of B1, the last of which, in Avellino, earned him the return ticket to Serie A. In 2007 / 2008 plays in A2 with Irpinia, then moves to Ravenna in B1, where he repeats the “formula”: promotion and subsequent season in A2. In 2010 the first passage of his career in Reggio Emilia, the following year he is in Santa Croce (always in A2), then a two-year period in the Swiss top league, in Lugano (2012-2014), before returning to our local B1 ( Segrate and Corigliano). In 2016-2017 he goes to Castellana Grotte in A2 and leads the Apulians to promotion to Superlega, competing as a protagonist the following year. From 2018 he marries the cause of Bergamo in A2 by winning an Italian Cup, in 2020 he returns to Castellana, in 2021 he makes another dive into the past, this time in Reggio Emilia, where he writes the history of Volley Tricolore with the extraordinary cup-promotion double.

THE WORDS FERNANDO GABRIEL GARNICA-

«The company had already looked for me in the past and this year is back in charge. I was really pleased to hear this interest in me, the choice then became even easier with the arrival of a talented and emerging coach like Battocchio and the prospect of building a competitive team. The first impact with the club and the city was for ten, if not more, even my wife and son were enthusiastic. We were very well received and immediately breathed a familiar atmosphere. I think that’s why Argentines have always enjoyed themselves here: we are very hospitable people and receiving such a welcome makes you feel at ease, at home. A message for the fans? I have known several in recent days and I thank them for their love. What I can promise is that this 42 year old youngster will give everything he has in his body to make them proud of their team. We want the whole city to feel involved, my hope is that the building is always full and becomes our fort “.

Come from an unforgettable vintage in Reggio Emilia.

«Every year we start from scratch, past personal and team successes don’t count, everything is possible at the start of a new championship. Personally, I always want to win, to reach new goals and to make the club where I play stronger. And then at my age I know I have fewer and fewer shots in the barrel, so I feel I have to give my all to stay on top. The Reggio season taught me that if the whole group gives its availability and works in the same direction, with desire and commitment, it is possible to reach unexpected goals and make dreams come true. It’s something that I hope to be able to pass on to my new teammates too, then we’ll see what fate has in store for us “.
