Mario Strikers Battle League, Trevisani "embodies the fighting spirit of Italian players"

After his commentary of an entire Strike match, we returned to bother him to let us tell his perspective on the game, his impressions and the potential he sees us, as an expert in the world of sport, also in an eSporting key. For those unfamiliar with the crazy world of Mario Strikers Battle League Football here is our review and our preview!

Have you experienced Mario Strikers Battle League firsthand? Did you have fun?

I had a lot of fun commenting on it, unfortunately I don’t have time to play it and I haven’t had a chance yet, but it honestly seems to me a really modern and very fast concept. It’s wonderfully hypnotic because it keeps you glued to the screen with things that would never exist in regular football. You can take your opponent down in a mix of football and battle never seen before.

What do you think of the aggressive and spectacular mechanics? Did you find them funny or exaggerated?

Those who play super Mario are used to the exaggeration of the Mushroom Kingdom so if Mario is on the pitch you don’t expect simulated football. The world is full of normal soccer games but here there is an adventure that uses soccer as a medium and it is a completely unique thing.

What was it like commenting on a Strike match? What amazed and amused you the most?

I was amazed at the organization of the game, it is extraordinary. When we recorded the commentary there was a team of people following it step by step, wanted by Nintendo to make it come to the best of worlds. Normally on football I am very knowledgeable and prepared, here I had to learn a lot, objects, hyperthiria etc … I experienced a different thing and I felt the enthusiasm of the players. The action is frenetic, there is always something to say and I didn’t struggle with the commentary thanks to my very fast pace, the slower ones, however, will struggle, so the casters will have to train a lot.

The game seems to have been designed to become an eSport, if it were to succeed would you like to cast some competitive matches?

Ha ha! (laughs) I’d really like to! Absolutely yes, I had the feeling of being in front of an eSport, there is the technical level, the team composition and the spectacularity. Strikers is revolutionary and football teams who want to look forward can take it as an example. Italy is a bit behind from this point of view but I am sure that the smartest will seize this competitive opportunity.

If a new eSports scene is born, do you think that Italian players will be able to assert themselves on the world scene as they do on Fifa?

We have always been very good on the defensive phase and to put it on the physical. In Strikers this aspect is very important and, as in the 2006 World Cup final, the Italian players win with physicality, mind and experience. Being a spacious court you can put up many strategies so there is a way to give vent to our bodily and aggressive characteristics. We are skilled when it comes to fighting.

Do you think Mario Strikers can bring the new generations closer to playing football, intrigue them in some way, or are they too distant as worlds?

In my opinion the new generations see this game with fun and playfulness, only to discover that there is a ball that rolls and 2 doors so yes, it could bring them closer to football in my opinion. It is possible because the thrill of scoring and seeing a match in the real world is there, and many could come close to it.

One last question, super powers aside, am I wrong or is Srike a little reminiscent of Florentine football?

Has! (laughs) I’m not much of an expert but that’s the first thing I thought when I was commenting. It is similar but slightly different, it refers to a green lawn and a rolling ball but it is not the same thing, and my first thought when I started to comment on it was to associate it with Florentine football.
But in Florentine football there is no Mario!
