Meo’s relationship with Azzurro began in Ancona on 21 May 1977, the day in which he made his debut as a player with the Italy jersey in a friendly match won against Mexico. Since then, Meo has made 132 appearances and 947 points for the national team, winning the historic Silver at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. Only three years later (1983) he graduated as European Champion in Nantes after also winning the Silver at the Mediterranean Games in Casablanca. In 1985 he won another medal with the national team, the bronze medal at the European championship in Germany. As Technical Commissioner he brings the Azzurri back to the Olympic Games (Tokyo 2021) after 17 years and to the World Championship, that of 2019 in China, after an absence of 13 years (previous edition in 2006 in Japan).
Raised in the youth academies of Wild Novara, he began his career in Asti and then moved to Auxilium Torino and then to Gira Bologna, making his debut first in A2 and then in A1. He will close his career after 8 years at Varese Basketball (1984/1992). As a coach he starts from Turin, then Asti, Bergamo, Castelletto Ticino, Fabriano, Orlandina and Udine. In 2009 he arrives in Sassari and in Sardinia he writes indelible pages for Dinamo, taken from A2 to the treble (Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa) in 2014. With the Sardinians he also won the 2015 Italian Cup. The three-year period at Vanoli Cremona (2017 / 2020) brings the 2019 Italian Cup as a dowry. In the summer of 2020 he becomes the manager of Fortitudo Bologna, but his adventure with Effe ends in December 2020. He is the father of Brian Sacchetti, 21 appearances and 101 points in the national team and his player in Castelletto Ticino and Sassari. Since 2016 he has been a member of the Italy Basketball Hall of Fame.
