The Golden Eagle keglers made history Tuesday afternoon.
Dave Dixon’s Big Walnut girls, on the strength a 290-pin, 1,724-1,434 victory over Hilliard Bradley at Ten Pin Alley, clinched the inagural Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division championship as well as Central Ohio White Division title.
Jayme McClelland, who came into the match carrying a 179 average, led the Golden Eagles with 195-372 two-game series. Kelly Dixon, with a 164 average, backed McClelland with a 305 series.
Coach Dixon was not surprised with his girls’ performance.
“I knew we had the ability to win our division, it was a matter of the girls wanting it,” he said. “They worked hard this season to reach that goal ... and it paid off.”
Bg Walnut’s boys, who already had the OCC Capital crown locked up, fell to Bradley 2,000-1,959, a loss that left the CO White Division title still up for grabs.
Brandon Magyari led the Golden Eagles with a 199-367 series. Magyari came into the match with a 169 average.
With Tuesday’s victory, the Golden Eagle girls qualified to the Central District Sectionals Feruary 19 at Eastland Lanes.
