The Upper Arlington High School boys basketball team isn't focusing on the fact that it's off to its best start in more than 60 years.

The Golden Bears are 12-0 overall and 9-0 in the OCC-Central Division after a  53-50 win over Worthington Kilbourne last Tuesday. The last time UA won its first 12 games was the 1946-47 season, when it won its first 22 games.

"It's certainly better than the alternative, but I told the guys we haven't accomplished anything as far as what our season goals are," coach Tim Casey said. "We're barely beyond the midway point, and if we start thinking about that stuff, we'll set ourselves up for failure."

UA enjoyed a very similar start last season. The Bears won their first 10 games, only to go 6-6 in their final 12 and finish 16-6 overall. The players haven't forgotten how quickly their fortunes can change.

"It's good to start the season like that," post player Jeff Vaughn said. "But last year we started out well, too, but then we didn't end up reaching most of our goals, so we're trying to stay focused and keep looking ahead."
