PATASKALA -- The Watkins Memorial football team knows what it is up against Friday.
The Warriors visit Ohio Capital Conference-Capital Division foe Olentangy Orange for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday. The Warriors have not beaten the Pioneers in three prior meetings, and the Pioneers are coming off their most impressive victory of the year.
Back in the old days, Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division volleyball used to be Big Walnut on top and everyone else below.
But times are changing.
PATASKALA — The tears were understandable.
Two months ago, few would have expected Watkins Memorial to be in a position to win a Ohio Capital Conference-Capital Division title. On Tuesday, a bad bounce was all that stood between the Warriors and glory.
Hilliard Bradley’s Casey Gross scored on a penalty kick with 4:16 left in the match to give the visiting Jaguars a 2-1 victory. The Warriors (9-3-3, 4-2) had to win to earn the league title.
Cameron Kohl returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown with two minutes left in the game, and Hilliard Darby escaped with a 14-7 victory over visiting Thomas Worthington last night in an Ohio Capital Conference Central Division game.
PATASKALA -- The Watkins Memorial football team has no answer for its struggles away from home.
"I couldn't tell you," junior lineman Boban Stepanovich said.
